Reasonably Unreasonable

Or should this be titled "Unreasonably Reasonable"? Is it reasonable to reason that we want to stop war? Or is it unreasonable to want to heal people without medicine? How about banning cancer inducing cigarettes? What about all those jobs, and those poor children who would go hungry because the mum's and dad's don't have a job any more at the weapons factory or the chemical plant, or the tobacco factory? Well what about all those children who lose their lives, limbs or parents through war, chemical weapons, or those whose lives end in miserable lung cancer? What about the towns and villages destroyed by the pride of war and the defence of ideals? Is it ideal to take one life to save another? Is it ideal to prepare for such life taking? Is it ideal to make profits and fill the bellies of children in order to rob and leave other children to hunger? Can't these plants and factories change over to produce tools for peace and healthy production?

Is it reasonable to want a better world? A world of peace! A world of plenty! A world of health! Is it unreasonable to want our leaders to say "No" to war, "Yes" to alternative healing, "No" to harmful profits? Is it unreasonable to promote trust with our global neighbours, rather than threaten them with destruction, just to keep the war-machine running? Is it reasonable to promote health by teaching attitudes and to provide treatment to all who need it? Is it reasonable to forget racial and religious differences and promote world trade without prejudices? Is it reasonable to give peace a chance, and to imagine a world without borders? Is it reasonable to hope?

Peace is a choice! So is war! Why not choose peace? Sickness is a choice! Oh yes it is! So is health! Why not teach the world their choices? Love is a choice! So is hate! Why not choose love? Poverty is a choice! Yes it is! A choice we can change. Wealth is a choice! Why not choose wealth? Greed is a choice! Generosity too! What is your choice?

What kind of World do you want? What choices do you make? What are you prepared to sacrifice to have the world you want? What will you give to make this world a better place? Will you give up prejudice, hate, mistrust, greed? And will you take on equality, love, trust, generosity? Will you make this world a better place? It is up to you! No matter where you were born, no matter what religion you have been taught, no matter what colour is your skin, no matter how rich or poor you are; the future of our world is in your hands! Make this world a better place! Make this world a world of peace and plenty for all! Make yourself a part of this better World. Start today! Show equality, express love, give trust, be generous. Let love reign in your heart, forgive your adversaries, give to the poor and love your neighbour as yourself.

Great article, Jim. There are many who would love to see a world as you describe--myself included. But there are also the many, who think that hijacking planes and killing innocent people is 'Holy War' and will seat them on the right hand of God. I'm afraid to believe that there are enough people out there that don't want to see the human race self-destruct within our lifetime. Good article. I too wish that it could be read and taken to heart by millions around the world. SEG

Hi Sandra, I know what you mean, but I am not afraid to believe that there are enough people who want to see a better world. Why do we find it easier to believe in the bad? Articles like this one will help to raise human consciousness beyond that of self destruction. I believe that strongly and strongly urge more people to speak out and spread the word.
