Tithing, a Beneficial Practice or a Worthless Law?

Wings of Change
This is a loaded question. Rather than getting into a religious debate allow me to address "tithing" as a something which is beneficial and not something which is a must.
To accept such statements from the Bible, or any other holy book, as a mere rule to be adhered to is nothing other than primitive thinking. Such ideas only make God seem like a ruthless despot who makes rules just to show his authority. Not so! Is it not wise to always ask, "What does God want to tell us with this instruction?". I believe that God only gave us inspiration to live in a certain way for our own benefit. He gave us rules and laws to help us in life. It is entirely up to us whether or not we apply and live by these laws. If we adhere to them we will reap the rewards, if we ignore them we will miss out.
Give freely and you will receive freely. Give much and much will return to you. It's a law - apply it and you will experience the results. Just like any other natural law. Throw a ball in the air and the law of gravity will bring it down again. Move a magnet in a copper coil and you will get electricity. Give and you will receive. Its as simple as that. Try it!

Even though I have moved away from religion and man made rules, I find that much of the Bible makes more sense. All we have to do is believe it and apply it.
Good for you Jim, God never wanted us to be religous anyway. He simply wanted a relationship. As believers, we need to remember that the "church" is the body of Christ-those who have received Him as Savior. God has always condemned religion and man-made rules. We are to follow the teachings of the bible, not the teachings that man added to it. This is why there are so many denominations, look at their rules, a lot of them are not even in the Bible! I better stop before I get going.... :-)
